Blue Circle Campaign supports Diabetes Canada
During Diabetes Awareness Month purchase a blue circle at Pharmasave
Manitoba and Saskatchewan (November 1, 2018) – Diabetes Canada will kick off its Diabetes Awareness Month activities this November with a Blue Circle Campaign at Pharmasave locations across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. The blue circle symbol, developed by the International Diabetes Federation, is used to signify the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes pandemic. It’s easy to purchase a blue circle at check-out to support Diabetes Canada, including the D-Camps program for children and youth living with type 1 diabetes.
“We are thrilled that Pharmasave has once again endorsed our Blue Circle Campaign in Manitoba,” says Andrea Kwasnicki, Regional Director for Manitoba. “Last Year Pharmasave’s Gimli location was the top fundraiser of all stores in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, raising more than $6,600 to support Diabetes Canada’s D-Camps program, community outreach services, research and advocacy initiatives. We thank Pharmasave for their ongoing commitment and support of Diabetes Canada.”
“Diabetes Canada is pleased to once again be partnering with Pharmasave on this campaign,” says Brie Hnetka, regional director for Saskatchewan. “For more than five years, their support has allowed us to provide quality programming and to fund important diabetes research projects. In Saskatchewan, our D-Camps program helps children and youth with type 1 diabetes learn how to manage more independently in a medically-supervised environment where every camper has diabetes too.”
Since the partnership began, Pharmasave Central locations have raised over $86,000 to support children newly diagnosed with diabetes and the Diabetes Canada D-Camp program. “The Pharmasave Central region continues to be a proud supporter of Diabetes Canada and the Blue Circle Campaign,” says Paul Melnyk, CEO Pharmasave Drugs (Central) Ltd. “Last November, the Pharmasave members and their communities raised $26,000 to help send children who live with Type 1 diabetes to the D-Camps program in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. These camps are structured to provide the kids with tools and support to empower them in gaining independence in managing their diabetes.”
