March is Pharmacy Appreciation Month, the annual national campaign that shines a spotlight on the extraordinary role pharmacy professionals play in health care.

2022 was truly a momentous year for pharmacy practice across the country. Pharmacy teams have fully committed to responding to the growing demands on healthcare professionals and embraced all opportunities to provide optimal care to their communities.

While there are provincial differences in the healthcare services pharmacists are able to provide, pharmacists in all provinces are supporting their communities by incorporating new services to improve access to care and help reduce stress on the healthcare system.

Please join us in acknowledging and thanking all pharmacy professionals for embracing these changes and for the instrumental role they play in providing positive health outcomes for their patients. Some highlights from this past year include:

• Pharmacist assessments and prescribing for common health conditions
• Renewing and adapting prescriptions to ensure Canadians have access to medications when they need them
• Providing medications, monitoring devices, consultations and help in managing blood sugars for people with diabetes
• Administering medications by injection, immunizations and vaccinations beyond COVID and Flu shots
• Increasingly providing patient support for specialty and biosimilar medications including convenient and local access through their Pharmasave
• Offering private healthcare consultations and assessments on a walk-in or appointment basis
• Embracing the changing needs of Canadians by developing innovative ways to access virtual healthcare from the convenience of a pharmacy

Together, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants across the country have shown unwavering commitment to providing medication expertise, best-in-class healthcare services, and outstanding care and attention to their patients.
