Supplements for a Damaged Tendon

Whether it’s your Achilles tendon or your rotator cuff, damaged tendons can really put a crimp in the way you move.

Tendons don’t receive the same blood flow that muscles do so healing a damaged tendon can take quite a while. By increasing certain nutrients you can help your damaged tendon heal more quickly. Here are a few that might help:

Fish Oils – Essential Fatty Acids in fish oils are useful in reducing inflammation which can help relieve pain associated with inflammation

Vitamin C – Vit C is essential for collagen synthesis and useful in mending connective tissue like ligaments and tendons.

Collagen – Bovine and chicken source collagens are useful  in helping connective tissue recover and maintain elasticity.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin – these supplements combined are useful for improving cartilage in your joints. When combined with MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) there is an anti-inflammatory benefit especially useful for those suffering osteoarthritis (occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down over time).

It’s important to see an appropriate healthcare professional, such as your doctor, a physiotherapist, massage therapist, or kinesiologist, to address damage to tendons and to avoid further damage.
