Cicalfate and My Cycle Fate

While the weather is warm I try to benefit from some exercise, cut fuel consumption,
and decrease my carbon footprint by riding my bike from my home in Penticton to work at Pharmasave in Summerland. While I do enjoy the ride to and from work, it is not without its perils.
Last summer I negotiated a curb poorly at not a slow velocity. The result being my bicycle continuing in one direction while
I spiralled in another (lucky I was wearing a helmet and biking gloves). The upshot of my tumble was some minor damage to my bike, some ugly and bloody scrapes and bruises, and a good thrashing to my ego since this all took place at an intersection where traffic was stopped and the drivers got to see the whole show.
In the aftermath I wanted to take care of the newly acquired wounds and as luck would have it, we have products on the shelf which fit the bill nicely. The first order of business was to clean the dirt and grit out of the scrapes on my leg and knee. Avene thermal water is sterile and gentle and was a perfect method for cleaning out the bits of dirt and asphalt out of a wound.
I followed this with Cicalfate, another Avene product, which stabilizes the wound area and maintains an environment on the skin conducive to healing. Inside of a week what would have been a scabbed up mess had healed into just a red spot where the scrape had been. In my own experience Cicalfate significantly sped up my healing process and reduced my chances of producing a scar. Cicalfate is a great recovery product for anyone who’s just had a cosmetic surgical procedure
or a tattoo as well. any procedure where speedy healing an scar reduction is desirable and possible.
So, while I don’t have any physical evidence of my misadventure,
I do have the lesson I learned about the benefit of using Cicalfate to speed healing and Avene Thermal Water for cleansing and calming injured skin. I’m also a lot more careful around curbs.
