As pharmacies are receiving a high volume of calls related to COVID vaccinations, we have provided some responses to Frequently Asked Questions with important details. The Ministry has also made available a FAQ document for patients to understand these rollouts.

  1. Which vaccine will I be administered if I am eligible?
    • Participating Ontario pharmacies are immunizing with the AstraZeneca COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccine. As the pandemic response evolves and vaccine supply increases, additional COVID-19 vaccine products may be added to the list of publicly funded COVID-19 vaccines available through pharmacies. We strongly encourage everyone to receive the first vaccine they are eligible for.
  2. I received my first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, when will I receive my second dose?
    • Ontario will be following the National Advisory Committee on Immunization’s (NACI) recommendations. In the context of limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines, the dosing interval will be extended to 4 months for all Health Canada approved vaccines.
    • It is recommended you return to the same pharmacy location for your second dose.
  3. What if I do not have an Ontario health card number?
    • If you do not have an Ontario health card, you must bring an alternate form of valid government-issued identification or one of the following which includes your name and date of birth:
      • Birth certificate
      • Employee ID
      • First Nations ID
      • Passport
      • MRN (Medical Record Number)
      • Out of Province ID
      • Driver’s License
  4. What should I expect before and after the vaccination at the pharmacy?
