The Opportunity

We are seeking a Category Manager to guide the planning and coordination of an assigned portfolio of retail categories. You will use internal and external data sources to inform assortment, pricing, promotions, product launches, and vendor plans. You will work closely with suppliers, region teams, store operators, and colleagues across Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, Business Technology and Pharmacy.

This role suits someone who brings analytical thinking, practical retail judgment, and strong relationship skills to coordinated category planning and execution.

Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Category Strategy and Performance

  • Shape category plans using sales, margin, market, and promotional insights to identify opportunities and support category health.
  • Turn analysis into clear recommendations and coordinated actions that respond to changing store, customer, and market needs.

 

Assortment, Pricing, And Promotions

  • Guide assortment, pricing, promotional planning, product selection, and new product introductions for assigned categories.
  • Use performance insights to strengthen future plans while balancing customer relevance, store needs, and merchandising standards.

 

Vendor Partnerships

  • Build trusted, productive relationships with suppliers and vendor partners to support shared goals.
  • Lead negotiations, business reviews, issue resolution, and partnership opportunities that create sustainable value for Pharmasave and its members.

 

Supply Management

  • Partners with vendors and wholesalers to support product availability, identify inventory and operational risks early, coordinate timely solutions, and provide clear recommendations when escalation is needed.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Finance, Business Technology, Pharmacy, region teams, and store operators to align category plans and support execution.
  • Bring people together around clear priorities, practical recommendations, and shared commitments that keep work moving.

 

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means becoming a trusted category partner—bringing forward clear insights, thoughtful recommendations, and well-coordinated plans that help stores respond to customer and market needs. You will build strong vendor and internal relationships, spot risks and opportunities early, and see your work come to life through relevant assortments and effective retail programs, across the Pharmasave network.

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret sales, margin, market, promotional, and inventory data and turn insights into practical recommendations.
  • Experience supporting assortment, pricing, promotional planning, product introductions, and vendor initiatives in a retail environment.
  • Confidence building supplier relationships, participating in negotiations, and working through issues to support shared goals.
  • Clear communication, sound judgment, and the ability to influence and coordinate across teams without direct authority.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with business intelligence reporting tools.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Marketing, or a related field—or an equivalent combination of education and experience—plus 2-3 years of relevant experience in category management, merchandising, buying, pharmacy, grocery, consumer packaged goods, or another multi-category retail environment.

  • A competitive base salary starting between $85,000 to $95,000 per year.
