Travel Health Tips – Allergies

Travel Health Tips – Allergies

Perhaps you are thinking of strolling amongst the cherry blossoms while on a trip to Japan this spring.

Maybe you are staying closer to home to witness the rebirth of the world renowned garden of Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island.

Whatever your travel plans, at home or abroad, the return of warm weather brings with it the return of pollens and insects…and allergies.

The Live Well team at Pharmasave Summerland suggests these products to manage your allergy symptoms while on the road:

Diphenhydramine HCl (Benadryl) – fast acting antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever, and the common cold. May cause drowsiness.

Chlorpheniramine Maleate – long acting antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever, and the common cold. May cause drowsiness.

Cetirizine HCl (Reactine) – antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching skin. Non drowsy.

Euphrasia Officinalis (homeopathic preparation) – Indicated for hay fever, conjunctivitis, colds, influenza, sneezing with nasal discharge, coughs.

Histaminum Muriaticum (homeopathic preparation) – for conditions like hay fever, hives, and reactions to insect stings/bites

Some of the products mentioned above are known by different brand names in other countries. You can save yourself time and frustration while you travel by being prepared. Consider booking a travel consultation at Pharmasave Summerland and learn how to stay healthy while you travel.
