Diabetes Clinic

Type 2 diabetes is a disease in which your body cannot make enough insulin (a hormone that helps control the amount of glucose or sugar in your blood), or does not properly use the insulin it makes. Type 2 diabetes is caused by several different risk factors and accounts for 90% of diabetes cases in Canada.(1)

Having high blood sugar can cause diabetes-related complications like:

  • Kidney disease
  • Foot and leg problems
  • Eye disease; retinopathy, that can lead to blindness
  • Heart attack & stroke
  • Anxiety
  • Nerve damage
  • Amputation
  • Erectile dysfunction (2)

Diabetes-related complications can be very serious and even life-threatening. Properly managing blood sugar levels reduces the risk of developing these complications. (2)

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with diabetes, one of the first steps you can take is to assemble a diabetes care team. Your care team is essentially a list of doctors, specialists, and other people who are supporting you on this journey. (3)

At Gaetz Pharmasave, we would like to be a part of your care team. Our Diabetes Educator can support you in:

  • Learning how to keep your blood sugar “at target” and how lifestyle choices affect your diabetes
  • Choosing and using continuous blood glucose monitors; CGM or strips to test your blood sugar
  • Choosing and using different insulin or insulin pen and help you adjust you daily insulin dose
  • Protecting yourself from and managing complications
  • Keeping up your immunizations
  • Managing your medication(s) if you’re going on vacation
  • And so much more…
