As the future of healthcare and technology continues to evolve, Pharmasave is taking the lead on implementing PrescribeIT™, the only national, not-for-profit e-prescribing service in Canada. Today, Pharmasave is pleased to announce our support for PrescribeIT™. Pharmasave will be working with Canada Health Infoway to continue rolling out PrescribeIT™ to Pharmasave members across the country as provinces go live.

Pharmasave was part of the first wave of pharmacies to launch PrescribeIT™ in 2017 and there are currently more than 40 locations live in Ontario and Alberta. PrescribeIT™ integrates seamlessly into electronic medical records and pharmacy management systems, enabling prescribers to electronically submit prescriptions to pharmacies while providing a convenient and secure way to communicate health information.

This service eliminates the need for paper prescriptions, safeguards patient health data from commercial use and maintains an independent prescribing and dispensing environment for healthcare professionals. PrescribeIT™ secure messaging supports improved communication with prescribers as an alternative to faxes and phone calls and facilitates prescription verification by pharmacy staff.

Pharmasave understands the importance of being on the innovative side of change to support patients with access to seamless national technology solutions. “This technology is in line with the paperless work environments being implemented in pharmacies,” says Allison Nourse, Pharmasave’s National Director of Pharmacy Innovation. About PrescribeIT™
Canada Health Infoway is working with Health Canada, the provinces and territories and industry stakeholders to develop, operate and maintain the national e-prescribing service known as PrescribeIT™. PrescribeIT™ will serve all Canadians, pharmacies and prescribers and provide safer and more effective medication management by enabling prescribers to transmit a prescription electronically between a prescriber’s electronic medical record (EMR) and the pharmacy management system (PMS) of a patient’s pharmacy of choice. PrescribeIT will protect Canadians’ personal health information from being sold or used for commercial activities.
